Boom, baby!

Post by bio » Tue Jul 24, 2007 9:43 am

For those who are lucky enough not to live in this two mule, olive pit of a town, I shall explain the excitement we had last night.

Around 5:35PM, just as my bus was coming over the Havana Street bridge (across the train yard), a OMFG HUGE fireball shot up into the sky, followed by tons of black smoke. Of course, being that I'm all curious and shit, I had my wife drive me over when I got off the bus a couple of minutes later.

Apparently, a fuel depot located in the middle of a residential area gave it up. Here's the pics I got with my cell phone (we beat the police to the scene):

There's video here.

As far as I know, no one was injured, and only the fuel depot and an adjoining tow yard were destroyed. HUGE kudos to the fire department for getting all over this one!

Seriously though... the smoke cloud went directly over my house... and it stunk to high hell (burning fuel oil isn't pleasant to breath). Thankfully, we had it sealed up tight... so that kept most of it outside.

In addition to the fire dept., Fairchild Airforce Base sent over a 1000 gallon foam truck which apparently helped out quite a bit as well.

We live further north and could see the huge smoke cloud from there.

Apparently the fire was arson.

It's not that bad. Bio just likes to use that line everytime he describes the place he's chosen to live for the last oh 20 years or so. :)
