I was pretty cranky about the whole credit card thing yesterday, so you can imagine my joy when I opened my mail and found a letter from my insurance company.
They state that since I have several loans (home, 2 cars, 2 motorcycles) and several credit cards (all have low balances) that I'm now a risk to them and they need to increase my premium by 47%.
How the hell does that work? I pay my bills, never had any type of insurance claim, and haven't even had a ticket since I started using this insurance company back in 1995. According to them, since I have multiple loans and revolving credit, I have less free cash on hand and am therefore my likely to file a claim than someone who doesn't have these things (they apparently are more likely pay out of pocket if they have an accident rather than file a claim).
Ugh.
So I call my agent to grumble at him over it all and he says he'll call me back after looking at other agencies. A couple hours later, the phone rings and he's got a deal for me. Move to Safeco and save about $400 a year on auto and car combined.
Yay! Let's do it!
So he starts doing the typical "lets update your information" thing and starts asking questions. Where do I work, where does my wife work, how far do we drive, etc. Then he gets to pets.
"Do you have a dog?" he asks.
"I have two" I say. "What are the breeds?".
I wish I had thought about that before I answered.
Instead, "one’s a Rottweiler and the other’s a pitbull-sheppard mix" came rolling out of my mouth. "No deal" he states.
Apparnetly, having a rotty means no insurance for you. He stated that no company he's dealt with will accept them. The only way you can have one is to get it "after" you're insured. I argued that neither one is a pure breed and they should therefore be classified as muts.
He's gonna call around and see if that makes any difference (but I'm not gonna hold my breath here). I might just be stuck with the rate hike after all.
More crap to be grumpy about

Have you checked your credit report recently? Mine got fucked up with someone who has the same name, and i didn't know until I got a letter saying i was high risk on one credit card i never use. They are in the process of fixing it, but it still pisses me off.
