Stats are back!!

Post by bio » Fri Feb 11, 2005 10:46 am

For those I host, stats are back!!

Your old link works, but we did lose some data (Jan 22 - Feb 5).

Huge thanks to Jester for getting it back online!!!

Also... the server is pry gonna run a little slow for a bit... the stats are busy as hell chugging through the log files (she's a busy box right now).

Glad to see you're using the newest version of AWSTATS :D

Don't want any more nasty little black screen surprises.

Like everything else... I did get hit... but before the storm blew in.

Someone got in via awstats but goofed up while moving in and setting up shop. They accidentially deleted the awstata.pl file (and thus lost access). They did, however, set up a lovely little ftp server on my box. That was on January 20th (we discovered it on the 21st and blew it away).

I swear... I'm a damn testing ground.

The Sanity.A folks were on my box 2 weeks prior to it's wonderous contribution to the net (we had tossed them off several times but had no idea how the hell they were getting in... we patched everything except for phpBB).

I'm getting to the point where it's almost not worth doing this crap anymore.

ohh crap, bummer to hear that.

I remember getting the US-CERT advisory about the AWSTATS vulnerability, then thinking I ought to get in touch with you, but I checked your site and saw it was already down, so thought you took it off line to patch.

Sadly for you, you can't lock your box down as tight as mine is, because you have to allow some access from the outside as you host other people's sites.

Mine on the other hand is locked down REALLY tight, with only 1 outside particular IP address allowed access, with ALL other IP addresses explicitly disallowed.

Don't worry, just keep it up to date and you should be okay!

Gosh, wouldn't we all like 5 minutes alone with those rat bastards :x

I'd settle for 3 minutes and a chain inside a rubber hose (so it doesn't stick when you hit 'em).

I've been thinking a Pentium processor enema would do the trick.

I've got a stack of 166mHz's kicking around... and square with pointly little pins and stuff.

That or force feed them marbles, then a couple teaspoons of syrup of ipecac (warning: wear eye protection is a MUST!! Marbles and teeth are dangerous when they fly).

Oh... one more thing:

While checking on things to update (I'm all paranoid now), I ran across the page at phpBB (the makers of this fine forum).

Now I'm friggin' scared.

Bio was kind enough to walk me through so I knew exactly what version I was currently running. Thanks Bio.

1. I agree, Bio is a very kind and sharing person. (For a rice bike rider)

2. Bio, can you provide the syntax to get the stats to work on tpigman.com?

3. I got the Hog out yesterday afternoon, at first only one 600cc lung would light up, one exhaust pipe was dead cold due to not much happin' in the rear piston area... but I took off and as she warmed up, it did kick in and off we went. (Bet that never happens to anyone else in this group! )

Hope to get out again today as the temp should rise over 40 degrees. Hope to make a WWBD MC cruise as soon as you get VICTORY over your back and the wx gets to about 70!
